How many subjects can one take in CUET UG 2025?

CUET UG 2025 has undergone massive changes this year as per the confirmation given by Mr. M Jagdesh Kumar, Chairman UGC, to PTI.

The UGC is set to make changes in CUET UG 2025. The UGC has announced a series of significant changes in CUET UG to improve its efficiency.
The major changes would be in Subject selection, Exam Pattern, Exam mode and logistical changes.

The final final draft with changes will be released very soon by UGC.

Here is the list of major changes incorporated in CUET UG 2025.

  1. CUET UG 2025: The Shift to CBT Mode Only: In an interaction with PTI, UGC chairman M Jagdesh Kumar provided hints into the changes. He said, “The exam will be conducted only in CBT mode from 2025, unlike the hybrid mode last year.
  2. CUET UG 2025: The number of subjects capped at five: The number of subjects a candidate can choose has been reduced to five from the earlier limit of six. This measure will reduce the logistical complexities associated with multiple tests across different subjects
  3. CUET UG 2025: Flexibility in Subject Choice: Candidates will also be allowed to opt for subjects in CUET UG that they have not studied in class 12 to allow the students to cross over the rigid disciplinary boundaries.
  4. CUET UG 2025: 60 Minutes for all exams: The exam duration, which varied from 45 minutes to 60 minutes depending upon the subject, has now been standardised as 60 minutes. The concept of optional questions in the exam has also been done away with and all questions will be compulsory now
  5. CUET UG 2025: Reduction in Number of Subjects: “We have also reduced the number of subjects from 63 to 37, and admission for the dropped subjects will now rely on the scores of General Ability Test popularly known as the GT." Kumar Said.
  6. CUET UG 2025: Questions Format: The concept of optional questions has also been removed, making all the questions in the exam compulsory.

Last year, the exam was adopted by 283 universities, with 13,47,820 candidates registering for it.

I hope it helps.
