The details of NIMCET are as under
- NIMCET is known as NIT MCA COMMON ENTRANCE TEST It is a very popular entrance exam for MCA entrance.
- Admission to the M.C.A. program of the eleven participating NITs/IIIT and one IIIT is done through a common entrance test NIMCET
Participating IITs and NITs –

1. Other Universities/colleges accepting the score of NIMCET
Ranks awarded to candidates in NIMCET examination were considered by some other Universities like, Indraprastha University, Delhi and HBTU, Kanpur, etc., for their admission purposes in the previous years. However, NIMCET-2024 has no role in their admission process.
2. NIMCET Full form - The NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET), is a National Level Test conducted by NITs for admission to their Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program.
3. The admission to the MCA program to the ten NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Patna, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), and Warangal and IIIT Bhopal is based on the Rank obtained in NIMCET
4. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TO APPEAR FOR NIMCET Indian Nationals securing at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale (55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale in case of SC/ ST/PwD) in (i) Any UG program of minimum Three years with Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subjects OR (ii) B.E./ B.Tech. from a recognized University/Institution are eligible to appear for NIMCET-2024. Conversion of scored marks from CGPA to percentage and vice-versa is not permitted.
5. Number of Seats in NITs
The total number of seats available for the MCA program across all participating institutions is generally around 1033. The number of seats varies by institute and can include both regular and self-financed seats.

6. Exam Pattern
- NIMCET-2024 test will be conducted with single paper in three parts containing 120 multiple choice questions. The Part-I time duration is 70 minutes and consists of Mathematics (50 questions). Part-II time duration is 30 minutes and it consists of Analytical ability and logical reasoning (40 questions). Part-III time duration is 20 minutes and it consists of Computer Awareness (20 questions) and English (10 questions).
- The three parts of the CBT will appear to the candidate one after the other. Time assigned for each part is fixed. Candidate should complete each part in allotted time only as movement to one section from other is not permitted. Multiple Choice Questions will be written in English Language only and will not be translated into any other language.

- Marking Scheme
- Each correctly answered question will be awarded full marks and each wrongly answered question will lead to 25% NEGATIVE mark.
- The candidates are advised not to attempt such questions if they are not sure of the correct answer. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if a question is unanswered.
7. Qualifying Criteria for Allotment of Rank
- A Candidate securing zero or negative marks either in Mathematics or in Total Marks in NIMCET test will be disqualified. Based on the marks obtained by a qualified candidate in NIMCET test, a rank will be allotted by adopting the following criteria.
- The marks obtained in Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, English, will be summed up. Thus, maximum weighted marks will be 1000.
- Ranking will be based on total weighted marks obtained by a candidate.
8. Annually, 30,000 candidates apply for the NIMCET, competing for 1033 seats in 11 NITs across India.
- The candidate should be an Indian national.
- There is no upper age limit to apply for the NIMCET exam in 2024.
- The candidate must have passed the prerequisite exam and hold a B. Sc, B. Sc (Hons), BCA, or BIT degree with mathematics or statistics as one of the fields from a recognised university. OR If a candidate has a BE or B. Tech degree from an approved university, they are eligible to apply for the NIMCET 2024.
- Candidates must present their qualifying exam degree at the time of counselling. All candidates must submit the required documents by the second week of May 2024.
- Applicants must be graduates of open institutions who have satisfactorily completed the B. Sc, B. Sc (Hons.), BCA, or BIT programmes. These programmes have all received approval from the Indian government’s UGC, AICTE, and Distance Education Council (DEC).
- To pass the NIMCET qualifying exam, candidates must achieve at least 60% of their total marks or a 6.5 CGPA on a scale of ten. For SC/ST applicants, a minimum grade of 55% is needed, or a CGPA of 6 on a scale of 10.
9. Salary Packages and Placements
- The typical compensation range for MCA from NITs is INR 9 lakhs to as high as 65 lakhs per annum.
