Major Changes in CUET UG 2025: Key Subjects Removed and New Guidelines

The National Testing Agency (NTA) and University Grants Commission (UGC) have announced significant changes to the CUET UG 2025 exam pattern. If you're preparing for CUET UG, it is important to stay updated as these changes will directly impact your preparation strategy and subject choices.

Subjects Removed from CUET UG 2025

The UGC has decided to discontinue several domain-specific subjects/papers in CUET UG 2025. These subjects will no longer be available for selection, and admissions for related programmes will now be based on the General Aptitude Test instead.

Here is the list of subjects that have been removed:

Fashion Studies

Legal Studies

Entrepreneurship

Engineering Graphics

Teaching Aptitude

Tourism

For students planning to pursue professional courses like a five-year law programme            through CUET UG, this change means you will now need to appear for the General Aptitude Test instead of the previously offered subject-specific tests like Legal Studies

Focus on General Aptitude Test

Candidates aiming for programmes linked to the removed subjects (Fashion Studies, Legal Studies, etc.) will now need to demonstrate their abilities through the General Aptitude Test. Along with this, students can choose English, Hindi, or any other regional language available as part of the test structure.

The General Aptitude Test is currently in vogue as the General Test, which evaluates candidates' analytical, logical, and reasoning skills along with general awareness.

Subjects Still Available in CUET UG 2025

While a few subjects have been discontinued, there are still 23 domain-specific subjects/papers that students can opt for in CUET UG 2025. These subjects cater to a wide range of academic interests and career aspirations. The following is the complete list:

     1. Accountancy/Book-keeping

     2. Business Studies

     3. Agriculture

19. Knowledge Tradition - Practices in India

20. Physical Education (Yoga, Sports)

21. Anthropology

22. Economics/Business Economics

23. Computer Science/Information Practices

What Does This Mean for Students?

The removal of these subjects represents a strategic shift in CUET UG, encouraging a more holistic evaluation of candidates through the General Aptitude Test. Here’s what students need to keep in mind:

For Law Aspirants: Students planning to pursue five-year integrated law programmes must now focus on preparing for the General Aptitude Test instead of Legal Studies.

Balanced Subject Selection: With the list of 23 subjects available, candidates can align their preparation based on their career goals and university requirements.

General Aptitude Test Importance: The General Aptitude Test will play a crucial role in CUET UG 2025 admissions for programmes previously linked to the discontinued subjects. Students must prioritize sharpening their general reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Language Flexibility: Along with domain-specific subjects, candidates can choose languages like English, Hindi, or other regional languages as part of the exam.

The CUET UG 2025 changes bring both challenges and opportunities for aspiring candidates. By focusing on the General Aptitude Test and carefully selecting from the 23 domain-specific subjects, students can streamline their preparation for a successful performance.

Stay updated, stay prepared, and embrace the new CUET UG pattern to achieve your academic dreams!
